Juheun: Uno de los pioneros en la enseñanza de la música electrónica en Estados Unidos

Todo empezó cuando acudí como invitado a la comunidad de una Universidad local para una de sus clases especializadas en pinchar como DJ. Esto fue muy al inicio de su programa, cuando creo que era una asignatura optativa y hacían una clase por semana, durante el semestre otoño-invierno. El profesor de aquel momento, Rob Wegner, me invitó con la idea de dar una charla sobre temas básicos, más bien para que contase mi historia y experiencias como profesional. Con el tiempo, comenzaron a añadir más clases sobre Djing, y Rob habló conmigo para que me involucrase más en ayudarle a crear un programa completo con certificado. Esto llevó a que me ofreciesen el lugar para enseñar la clase de DJ Digital, donde enseñaba tanto Traktor como Serato o los CDJ, por ejemplo. Tras algunos semestres, los organizadores del programa vieron que también tenía conocimientos sobre producción de música electrónica, con lo que les ayudé a crear el currículum para la clase de producción con Ableton live, y también pasé a ocuparme de las clases Música Electrónica 1 y Música Electrónica 2.  Con los años, Rob fue capaz de conseguir el certificado completo y nos convertimos en la primera Universidad con certificación del país, y creo que incluso del mundo. Teníamos todo tipo de clases, que iban desde las técnicas básicas de DJ hasta la producción, las battles y el scratch con el mundialmente famoso Ruthless Ramsey. El programa todavía existe y sigue activo, pero por desgracia tuve que dejarlo porque me era ya imposible compaginar la enseñanza con mi vocación para dedicarme a pinchar y a producir, que es lo que más me apasiona.

Juheun just remixed Dusty Kid’s ‘Constant Rising’ via Octopus Recordings. Today he shares 5 tips to become an outstanding producer. 

1. Less is more.

I always like to start my projects and remixes using only stock plugins and soft synths in Ableton Live. I find myself able to stay more focused and get exactly what I want without being distracted by all the bells and whistles that come with 3rd party plugins and VSTs. Once I get my tracks to about 75% done… the basic ideas… patterns… drums and layout… then I move the project into the studio where I have all my toys. This is when my main focus shifts from being creative to more of a technical based workflow like swapping out synths and plugins for after market ones and focusing on polishing the sounds and overall project. Having more of a step by step process like this allows me to know where I am in the overall process of making and finishing a song.

Although not new to the electronic music industry, more recently Juheun has been pushing the boundaries of his own productions and performances by integrating the newest technology and hardware into his sets, creating a dynamic and engaging experience set to his futuristic soundtrack.

With a strong passion for analog gear and the latest music-producing hardware on the market, Juheun spends a lot of time in the studio constantly honing his skills and cultivating an ever-changing sound that stays ahead of the game. Irish-born Los Angeles-based Octopus label boss and producer Sian has announced the labels 100th release on the 5th December with their new compilation: OCTOPUS100. The compilation will feature a hand-picked selection of tracks as well as remixed classics from artists including Pleasurekraft, Juheun, Shelley Johannson, Carlo Lio and Loco & Jam to name a few. Octopus will be hosting a series of pop-up events “Octopus100’ in the USA towards the end of the year and into 2017, where they will be focusing on small intimate venues with no more than 100 guests, all these events will be showcasing the best of Octopus roster artists as well as the exclusive merchandise. Early 2017 will see a follow-up series called “Vs” where tracks from Mark Reeve, Gregor Tresher, Julian Jewell and Sian have already been confirmed to be released as support singles.
